This book series offers a comprehensive overview of specific areas of photoscience and presents a critical evaluation of the trajectory that the field of photoscience is undertaking, covering selected aspects of the interaction between light and living matter. Committed to bridging the knowledge gap between established and emerging areas, this book series encompasses topics ranging from the photophysical events, followed by the absorption of photons by endogenous or exogenous constituents of biological systems to the large variety of effects caused by UV, visible, and near-IR wavelengths at a supramolecular, cellular and tissue level.
Particular attention is given to strategies for protecting ecosystems and plants, animals, and human beings against photodamage, as well as to using light as an information carrier or a beneficial tool in the field of medicine and the environment. An in-depth description of novel emerging topics, such as the use of nanotechnologies in photobiology or the advent of sophisticated time- and space-resolved spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, is also provided. By incorporating these emerging frontiers, the series provides a high-quality critical review of the state-of-the-art and presents future developments for each subject.
This book series supports and advances the UN’s sustainable development goals, in particular, SDG7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG3 (Good Health and Well Being) and SDG6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
Initiated by the European Society for Photobiology, this book series expands the scope of photobiology and attracts the attention of the scientific and medical community to the high potential and value of this branch of science at both an academic, industrial, and social level.
