Travel Information

Free shuttle buses from Lyon and Geneva airports.

 

A free shuttle bus will be available for the transportation from Lyon-St.Exupery (formerly called Satolas) and Geneva-Cointrin airports to Aix-les-Bains on Saturday, 3 September.
In both cases the departure time will be 14.30.

 

Lyon-St.Exupery. Contact point will be the information desk which is located on the first floor of the airport between the two terminals (arrivals are on the ground floor).

 

Geneva-Cointrin. Contact point will be the information desk which is in front of the arrival exit.

 

Please note that a person from Congress office will be waiting for ESP participants with a sign 'ESP'05 -11th Congres of the European Society for Photobiology' at each of the meeting points, however not before 14.00.

A shuttle bus to the Airports is planned also at the end of the Congress (Thursday, 8 September around 13.30).


Access to Aix-les-Bains

 

Aix-les-Bains is located within a wide valley in the heart of the north part of the French Alps, at almost mid distance between Geneva and Grenoble and between Lyon and the Italian border (Torino direction).

By car
The city is easily accessible by car thanks to a convenient highway network with easy connection to Geneva (70 km), Torino (140 km), Lyon (100 km), Grenoble (75 km).

 

By train

Fast train (TGV) connections to Paris with several direct trains per day (about a 3 h journey), with departures from "Gare de Lyon" railway station in Paris.

Frequent trains from Paris downtown and a few from Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport to Lyon with easy connections to Aix-les-Bains.

In addition there also train services from and to:

  • Lyon-Part Dieu and Lyon-Perrache railway stations (downtowon) and Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport
  • Geneva and central Europe
  • South of France via Grenoble and Lyon
  • Italy (several daily direct trains to Milano and Torino)

By air

Two international airports at Lyon-Saint Exupéry ( 100 km ) and Geneva ( 70 km ) with flights to most of the major European cities and a couple of transatlantic flights to Geneva.

From Lyon-Saint Exupéry

Shuttle service "SATOBUS" between Lyon and Aix-les-Bains leaving the airport at 9.00, 12.00, 16.00 and 18.00 (1.25 h ride)

In addition there are train services from Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport either directly to Aix-les-Bains at 11.45 and 18.58 or with a quick change in Chambéry at 16.19.

Another possibility is to get trains to Aix-les-Bains at Lyon-Perrache or Lyon-Part Dieu railway stations (SATOBUS bus leaving airport for Part Dieu and Perrache every 20 min).

 

From Geneva

Limousine service "Ligne Directe" to Aix-les-Bains on reservation at least a few days in advance with a shared cost system (1 to 3 persons = 113 euros) or (4 to 6 persons = 144 euros)

Shuttle bus service "AERO-EXPRESS" to Chambéry railway station with 4 services a day (fare = 47 euros). Frequent train connections from Chambéry to Aix-les-Bains (12 min trip). Reservation is requested 48 h in advance.

Trains connections from Genève-Gare railway station (downtown) to Aix-les-Bains with direct service at 10.13 and 18.46 (about 1 h trip) or 16.21 with a fast and easy change in Culoz.

 

Please note that a free bus service for the ESP attendees will be available on Saturday from Geneva and Lyon airports with a likely departure at 14.00 (this will apply for the return on Thursday, September 8). The exact time will be confirmed shortly.

  • Annecy airport ( 40 km ) with a few Air France flights to Paris-Orly airport per day.
  • Grenoble-Saint Geoirs airport: daily flights to London-Stansted
  • Paris Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly airports:
    • Connecting flights to Lyon (14 per days) and Annecy

    • Trains from "Gare de Lyon" railway station in Paris to Aix-les-Bains

    • Trains from Charles de Gaulle to Lyon (Part Dieu station) and then regular train to Aix-les-Bains
